Academic Programs

The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science provides an opportunity for you to earn undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in the areas of Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology, and Environmental Science. In addition we offer introductory courses in all of these areas to undergraduates who want to explore interests in earth sciences while pursuing degrees in other fields.

Our professors conduct cutting-edge research around the world, studying such topics as cloud physics, geochemistry, and the global carbon cycle. Other research is happening right here in the Gulf of Mexico, with ongoing research on the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Follow this link to find out more about our research.

A successful environmental career is not created overnight. It requires a desire for education, a proper framework and context, and hard work. Many have found that framework in a strong education here at Florida State University. Whether you have a passion for science, engineering, or policy, FSU is fully equipped to get you on the right path for your environmental career.

Undergraduate Programs

At FSU, we offer students a wide spectrum of degrees in environmental sciences. You have the option to concentrate in one area, such as geology or meteorology; to focus on applied sciences like engineering; or to acquire a broad sample of everything with our new degrees in Environmental Science or Environmental Science and Policy.

Graduate Programs

Graduate work can bring you one step closer to achieving all your goals. There are many environmentally-centered programs available in EOAS, ranging from basic science research to developing public policy. Whatever your interests might be, you should investigate the interests of EOAS professors, talking with them about their work, to get a clear understanding of the depth and breadth of things being done at FSU. For more information about applying for Graduate study, please go to the Graduate School website.

Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

The University has established the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPDA) to enhance the quality of the training experience for all FSU postdoctoral scholars. The OPDA will actively assist postdoctoral scholars in obtaining the information and skills necessary to pursue careers in academia and beyond.

Resources available through the OPDA include

  • Website (see what resources, upcoming workshops, seminars or programs are available)
  • Listserve (the listserve is for all postdoctoral scholars on campus who are interested in taking advantage of the OPDA resources. Notifications of upcoming workshops, job opportunities, important events, invitations to campus networking socials, etc.)
  • Free Membership to the National Postdoctoral Association (FSU is a sustaining member of the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA). This membership provides free affiliate membership to all FSU postdoctoral scholars.
