Postdoctoral Position in Marine Aerosol Measurements
A postdoctoral position is available in the Russell Research Group at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the University of California, San Diego. The successful candidate will be responsible for the deployment of a set of instruments for measuring aerosol chemical and physical properties as part of the NAAMES cruises in the North Atlantic in February-March 2018. The instruments include HR-ToF-AMS with ET and LS, as well as SP2, particle sizing, filter and impactor collection, and basic meteorological parameters. The successful candidate will lead the data collection and scientific analysis of this dataset. He/she would also have the opportunity to be involved in additional projects, likely including shipboard deployments, pending funding. The position will require approximately 6 weeks in the field during 2018.
A completed PhD within the last 3 years in atmospheric sciences, chemical or environmental engineering, or a related discipline is required. Required skills include the operation and maintenance of advanced aerosol instrumentation, ideally based on past experience in operating and evaluating instrument performance in the field. Experience with aerosol instrumentation, mass spectrometry, laser techniques as well as computer programming and/or complex data analysis (e.g. Igor Pro) are highly desirable. Experience with laboratory or field studies of atmospheric chemistry is also desirable. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated commitment to publication of results. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
To apply, please send email to me at email@example.com with a single attached pdf file that includes a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV, date of availability, 2-3 first-author journal paper reprints in PDF, and a list of 4 references.
